How to Write Blog Posts That Rank: Start With What People Search

Good blog posts begin with a search, not a blank page. Here is the three-step process behind blogs that climb Google quickly.

By Divyanshi Tomar, Founder, The Content Thread

A Google results page with a blog post ranked first for a long-tail search.

Most blogs fail before the first sentence. The topic was picked because it sounded interesting, not because anyone was searching for it. Ranking starts earlier than writing: it starts with the question your reader types into Google.

1. Pick topics from real searches

List the questions your customers ask before they buy, then check how those questions are actually phrased in search. Choose the phrases people use, not the ones your team uses internally. A blog written for a specific, searchable question is easier to rank than one written for a broad theme.

2. Research, structure and optimise

Read what already ranks and find what it leaves out. Then structure the post so the answer is easy to find:

  • A heading for each sub-question, written the way people search it
  • A short, direct answer near the top of each section
  • Specific examples instead of general claims
  • One clear next step at the end

3. Educate first, sell second

A reader who learns something trusts you with the next step. Write to help, and let the offer follow naturally. In our own work, a blog written this way reached #1 on Google within six hours of publishing.

The same approach applies to website content, which also has to be found by AI answer engines. Structure it so a student, a buyer or a search assistant can pull the answer straight from the page.

See this approach in real work.
